My bag would be in the same cateogory as a cat walk garment. It would not be mass produced or imported. It would be a one off featured on a catwalk. As I’m unable to shoot it in the way I’d like to I have photoshopped the jacket onto catwalk collection garments to show how my bag would be presented.

My Concept

I have created three concept boards from my research and ideas which I carried forwards to make my bag. Throughout developing my boards I have shown how consumerism is damaging our environment.

My first board is based on colour and fabric inspiration from high end brand which do not mass produce.  The water in the background is clear. There are no signs of pollution or changes due to not being sustainable, there are only warnings

The second board shows the clear water fading. The focus on this board in waste which comes from cheap garments with a small life span. In front of the landfill is a fake/ imitated Burberry cross body bag representing the un importance and value, the life of the garments which are now in landfill sights. I have also taken the style of the fake bag and real bag as a design for my bag.

My third board shows imitation from a popular online fast fashion store. The Louis Vuitton bag is upon a clear water surface, showing very little harm is caused to the environment during production. The imitated version shows just how much pollution we are causing.

Materials

My bag will be made from the following materials which I will be re using and recycling from scraps or garments I already own.

-Plastic fabric

-Neon orange binding

the bright colour has been inspired by the Louis Vuitton plastic bags vibrant colour scheme.

-White zip

-Pink zip

-Black 25mm webbing

Shape

I have been thinking about the shape of my bag. I want my bag to reflect the impact of the fashion industry on the environment, i’d like people to understand the shape and think about taking a more sustainable approach to consuming and recycling.

Above, is a garment showing waves. After watching the Stacey Dooley documentary and becoming aware of the change in the Aral Sea I am going to create a bag in the shape of a wave to represent the few waves which remain in the sea.

Thinking about transparency.

I want to make an accessory made from recycled materials I already have. I do not want to buy anything new, scraps and remaining material from pervious projects will be used.

I found a sheet of pvc/ plastic like material which made me think about transparency. When holding up the fabric, you can see straight through it. The fabric has no designer logos, prints or colours which suggest and forms of wealth, power, status or class.

From researching into imitation and social class I have decided to use this as my chosen fabric. The transparency represents equality of classes, by looking at a bag made from the fabric there is no indication of class or wealth.
